The "Espresso" word means "fast" in Italian and the espresso brew was invented in the early 1900's by Luigi Bezzera, he was not happy that his employees used to take long coffee breaks. He was looking for a fair solution of this problem and started to research the way coffee is traditionally brewed. He notices that inside a conventional Drip or Turkish system the grinded coffee beans are soak on hot water that slowly pass trough, only helped by gravity.
Then Bezzera had an great idea, to speed up the soaking he introduced pressured hot water to the coffee brewing, reducing the time needed to brew. He called his new process the "Espresso" coffee machine.
Bezzera's Espresso machine reduced brewing time and made a better cup of coffee! The faster presured brewing extracted all the best qualities of the coffee bean, avoiding the dull after taste qualities associated with the drip aproach. He defined the Espresso method as: "Coffee made under ideal conditions for aromatic oils extraction being 86 degree centigrade and 10 atmospheres of pressure".
Later in 1905, Alfredo Danesi got this new brewing technology from Luigi Bezzera himself and founded Danesi Caffe in Rome, He developed three distinctive grinded blends for Luigi Bezzera's Espresso Method. And finally in 1906 the original Espresso Coffee Machine was formally presented to the world at an exhibition in Milano, Italy.
